The main item on the agenda was discus sion of the proposed replacement of the 1975 Student Government Constitution with an up dated document. Without sufficient numbers, the senate Coverage of the constitution trail will continue next in the next issue of The Pilot with a report on the senate meeting sched uled for September 28. could not do business other than make reports and announcements. A meeting for September 28 was called in order to discuss and possibly pass the pro posed constitution. The reason for calling a special meeting is that the executive council of the SGA, who wrote the new constitution, want it to pass through the senate in time to present it to the board of trustees in October. The issue of whether students will get to vote on the constitution was not raised. This was the second meeting of the Stu dent Senate and the second meeting in which a quorum was not met. Stay with The Pilot for continued cover age of the constitution trail. Hangin’ out at the ’Webb Students enjoy a little friendly competition to relieve the stress of a day filled with classes and studying. Faculty, students share blame for parking problems by Kevin Walter staff writer Where can I park? That is a question on the minds of many people at Gardner-Webb. The problem lies in illegal parking. Dean Scott reported to the Campus Life committee that security has been busy writing tickets this semester. Tickets have been written for illegal parking by residential students who drive to the cafeteria, commuters driving to each of their classes around campus instead of parking in commuter lots, and faculty that park wher ever they can put their cars if faculty parking areas are full. In the words of Dean Scott, the problem is caused by a "domino effect." Since students tend to drive to breakfast or to early classes, faculty spaces become unavailable by mid-morning. Faculty then have to fmd spaces either in commuter parking areas or residential areas. When commuters begin to arrive, they find that there spaces are taken by faculty, staff, or residential students. Spaces nearest to buildings are the most sought after. The-curb near the security office offers parking near the DCC, Lindsay Hall, Noel Hall, and the Dover Chapel. It is also illegal to park there. Not only is it illegal, it is also potentially hazardous. With cars being parked on either side of this area, drivers' views are obstructed as they pass through this area. Both Scott and David Helton, chief of university police, recommend that residential students leave their cars paiiced in residence hall parking areas from 7 a.m. until 5 p.m. They also recommend that commuters park solely in commuter parking areas and in the overflow located behind the Lutz Yelton Convocation Center. "I think that there is enough parking, but not enough selective parking," said Dean Scott. "People want to park right up at their door, or class." Scott also said that he was concerned about situations like Myers/Spangler where paved parking is not available to residents. A plan to pave an area for Myers/Spangler resident's automobiles is being c.onsidered and Scott hopes that an area will be paved by next year. Helton gives a weekly report to Scott and in the most recent one, he stated that there are parking spots on campus that are not being take advantage off Students, Faculty, and Staff: Your continued support - cards, calls, prayers, and other expressions of concern - have been a primary element in my recovery and return!
